Through our books, we want to contribute to the European idea. To do so, we will refrain from strictly focussing on one genre. We want to allow our authors to deal with Europe in a variety of ways and tell stories about the continent and its people. That way, experiences with and challenges of a united continent can be addressed and new perspectives gained - or it is simply possible to discover new facets of a diverse region.

  

Mit unseren Büchern möchten wir einen Beitrag zur europäischen Idee leisten. Dabei verzichten wir bewusst darauf, uns auf ein bestimmtes Genre festzulegen. So wollen wir es unseren Autorinnen und Autoren ermöglichen, sich auf verschiedene Weise mit Europa auseinanderzusetzen und Geschichten über die Menschen auf dem Kontinent zu erzählen. Auf diesem Weg können Erfahrungen und Herausforderungen eines vereinten Kontinents verarbeitet und neue Sichtweisen gewonnen werden - oder einfach neue Facetten einer diversen Region entdeckt werden.

Europe is not only history. Most importantly, it is our future. As a result of the European Union but also because of an improved communication infrastructure and an increasingly mobile population, people on the continent have grown closer. As a result, national borders can have a symbolic status more than they are an actual hindrance - open borders build the foundation for many modern life stories.

Insbesondere durch die Europäische Union, aber auch durch zunehmend bessere Kommunikations- und Mobilitätswege sind die Menschen auf dem Kontinent stärker zusammen gewachsen. Nationalstaatliche Grenzen in Europa nehmen oftmals mehr einen symbolischen Status an, als dass sie ein reales Hindernis bilden – offene Grenzen bilden die Grundlage für viele moderne Lebensentwürfe.

While the processes of European integration since the middle of the 20th century have played a tremendous role in strengthening the connections between people across the continent, an exchange across national boundaries precedes these developments. By re-publishing selected works of European authors, these historical relations in literature can be highlighted and the diversity of European literature and philosophy becomes visible. This way, it is also possible to make titles available that are currently no longer in print.

Through a mix of well-known authors and their work as well as lesser known writers it can be made sure that a wide variety of different titles will be included in the series.

Während die europäischen Einigungsprozesse seit Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts den Austausch und die Vernetzung der Menschen auf dem europäischen Kontinent stark beschleunigt und gestärkt haben, gab es auch zuvor schon vielfach Berührungspunkte über nationale Grenzen hinweg. Durch die Neuauflage ausgewählter Werke europäischer Autorinnen und Autoren sollen diese historischen Verbindungen in der Literatur hervorgehoben und die Vielfalt der europäischen Literatur und Philosophie sichtbar gemacht werden. Insbesondere vergriffene Titel sollen auf diese Weise wieder verfügbar gemacht werden.


Durch die Mischung bekannter Autorinnen und Autoren und deren Werke sowie relativ unbekannter Veröffentlichungen kann die Vielfalt der im Rahmen der Reihe verfügbaren Titel sichergestellt werden.
